What if.... Safety

Do you pay attention to the safety of items when buying things for your (unborn) child? I would love to say, YES, we certainly do. But unfortunately, that's not always something you think about when you come across something nice. I didn't really do that either when I was newly pregnant with our first. Now I know better... 

Of course, you hear it more often in your surroundings. 'Are you making sure he doesn't put anything in his mouth?'. Yes, you don't want to think about your child choking on something small or something else happening. You don't really think about it, but with a lot of toys, little things can break off or come loose. Therefore, there is special legislation regarding toys for children.

CE marking & EN71 
You have the CE marking and an EN71 certification mark. The CE marking is a declaration by the manufacturer that the product has been assembled according to European directives.  It may be sold on the European market. It has not yet been tested for safety! Toys must be tested by an independent party to receive an EN71 certification mark. The certification mark for toys is EN71, which stands for European Standard, and sometimes NEN is made from this, which stands for Dutch Standards. 

Common sense
Of course, it is always possible that despite the certification mark, something comes loose or breaks. We experienced this ourselves recently too. On New Year's Eve, we were in the emergency room because our eldest son of 3 had put something from Playmobil in his nose. Not really very convenient, but fortunately it ended well & was out again with the help of the doctor. Still, it immediately makes you think. You have to pay better attention! 

Therefore, besides the certification mark, it is of course also just a matter of common sense. Check all toys for loose parts and damage before use. You are best placed to judge whether it is safe for your child. Read our safety page to read what you can pay attention to.
